Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, remember to call your AC maintenance technician to come out and perform your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to get rid of twigs and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the system and trim back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Strand Brothers Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal A/C system service. Also, a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. These window coverings may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A yearly AC tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Strand Brothers Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
