What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Strand Brothers Service Experts in Austin always writes about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it truly mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is voluntary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Strand Brothers Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Strand Brothers Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating

  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
